In 2016, SC Ready showed that only 44% of third grade students had either met or exceeded standards in ELA.  The alarming results inferred that more than half of students in that graduating class will drop out of school and have fewer employment opportunities in the future.

LitRules!, a community-based program through White Garment Publishing Group, has created an interactive summer literacy program to assist schools in strengthening the reading skills of struggling students. In partnership with local celebrities and authors, the establishment of a writers jam, confidence building sessions, and many other innovative practices, LitRules! is positively impact the literacy rate in South Carolina.

 

We work with schools in two ways:

ONE-HOUR OPTION: Our team go to schools and present a modified version of our extended program, including, but not limited to an author read aloud. This option will last for two hours.​

 

FULL DAY OPTION: Our team go to schools and present a full version of our program, including, but not limited to a writers boot camp, community dental visit, and much more. This option will last for four - six hours.

Duration of the Program:

The program is only available between June and August, annually.

 

Each participant receives the following:

• Literacy education

• Free books

• Workshops for literacy development (Social-Emotional Learning)

 

Certifications:

Our staff includes highly-qualified teachers and professionals to meet specific needs of the students. Our collective credentials include, but are not limited to, published authors, PreK – 12th Teacher Certification, National Board Teacher Certification, Read to Succeed Endorsement, Gifted and Talented Certification, and ASHA Certification.
